We’ll Fine Google…$57 Million Dollars

France Fines Google $57m

That's right, France's CNIL regulator has fined Google $57 million dollars for a couple of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) violations. To help keep things in perspective, Google made $356 million dollars today - probably more, since that's based on their 2018 revenue of $130 billion.

Also to help keep this in perspective, France has fined the Banque Postale agencies $57 million for allowing money transfers to suspected terrorists, and $64 million dollars to Whirlpool for price fixing home appliances.

Update: The Hill reports today that Google led the tech industry in lobbying, at $21 million. No comment on how much Google spent on lobbying the French government, but one must assume that it was decidedly less.
