Needham analyst Laura Martin said she was optimistic about Roku’s coming year. The company now has 24 million unique accounts — 43 percent higher than this time last year. One of out 10 Americans aged 18 to 34 have a Roku device at home, many of whom don’t subscribe to traditional cable packages.

I don't know who is going to win the streaming wars and maybe there's enough room for Roku / Sling / Hulu / Netflix / etc. to coexist. I had to query my parents on this one, since I'm not a big TV watcher (let alone streaming TV!) and they use Amazon and both Acorn and BritBox. Who knew? According to them, Acorn and BritBox are so cheap that if you're into British content, there's no reason not to subscribe to both. And, of course, Amazon is "free" if you're paying for Prime, anyway.
Which brings us back to Needham analyst Laura Martin, and her call on Roku as her top pick for 2019. Last year it was Facebook that was Martin's pick for the coming year. Facebook began the year at $181.42 and currently sits at $130.71, for a decline of 28-percent. For comparison, the S&P 500 index is down just 10-percent over the same period.
