Inside Facebook’s new plan for news

Campbell Brown, Facebook's head of news partnerships, said: "Our goal with the News tab is to provide a personalized, highly relevant experience ... The majority of stories people will see will appear in the tab via algorithmic selection."

I've never understood the connection between Facebook and news. I'm sure there is a certain segment of Facebook users that spend the majority of their online time, on the platform, but surely this cannot be the norm. I'm open to seeing what the Facebook algorithm produces, but my guess is that it will produce exactly the same news that every other algorithm produces. There is no value in sameness.
